1.5m is a handy length for connecting equipment to a nearby wall socket or floor box, or linking a router to a switch on the same desk. Allow for the path around desk legs and cable trays, not just the distance between the two ports. Copper Ethernet supports links of up to 100m, counting every lead and cable along the way.
