What S/FTP means
S/FTP is the most heavily screened construction: each pair has its own foil and the whole bundle sits inside a braided screen. It suits factories, plant rooms and fast links. A screen works best when the whole link, sockets and patch panel included, is screened and earthed. The letters before the slash describe the outer screen and the letters after it the screen on each pair, with U meaning unscreened, F foil and S braid.
