Straight or crossover?
Most modern broadband routers and phones use a straight RJ11 to BT cable. Some older modems and fax machines need a crossover cable, which swaps the two line wires; if a straight cable gives no dial tone, a crossover cable is usually the answer. Crossover cables have crossover in the product name.
