What U/UTP means
Unshielded U/UTP leads rely on tightly twisted pairs to keep interference out. With no foil or braid they are slim, flexible and easy to run, and they work well in typical homes and offices. The letters before the slash describe the outer screen and the letters after it the screen on each pair, with U meaning unscreened, F foil and S braid.
